Reiki is a hands on healing technique that originated in Japan.  It is based on the principle that everything is energy, including ourselves; we have life force energy that flows through us.  Reiki treatments work to increase this life force energy, raising our energy levels to support health and resist disease. The word Reiki comes from two Japanese words - Rei which means "God's Wisdom or the Higher Power" and Ki which is "life force energy". So Reiki has come to mean "spiritually guided life force energy." See Reiki: A Comprehensive Guide

Prayer Therapy uses prayer to heal one's mind, body and spirit.  It is not religion-specific and shows individuals how to think about prayer, phrase their prayers, and receive answers to their prayers.  By showing us how to interact and connect with ourselves and God, prayer therapy opens us to experience God's Grace and in doing so brings goodness into our lives, and the lives of others. See Techniques in Prayer Therapy

The word yoga is derived from the Sanskrit root "yuj", meaning "to control", "to yoke" or "to unite".  Many translate this to mean the uniting of physical with mental, mind with body.  Yoga is a both a physical and mental discipline, practiced through postures and meditation.  A great online resource for children is YogaKids.

Aromatherapy is a complimentary therapy that uses volatile plant materials (such as essential oils) to improve a person's health and well-being. We love the essential oil blends IMMUNE (cold/flu remedy) and BUZZ-Off (natural bug spray).

Art Therapy uses art as of form of expression to help a child heal - what is expressed through art may be difficult for the child to express through words. Anyone can do art therapy, but art therapists are trained in therapy and art and have a background in psychology and human development.  Follow Art Therapy Blog and see how art therapy can help children with stress, anxiety, grief, learning disabilities, cancer, and those who have survived traumatic experiences. Or pick up Creative Coping Skills for Children by Bonnie Thomas, LCSW, and learn some arts and crafts projects that will facilitate your child's creative expression.

Acupuncture stimulates the body to heal by inserting needles into specific points, called acupuncture points.  These points run along channels of energy, called meridians.  The acupuncture needle (along with heat or electrical stimulation) encourages energy to flow through these channels or meridians, which are often stuck.  Think of a dam, holding back water to flow down the river.  In the same way, stuck energy can prevent energy from nourishing tissues and cells.  To find a practitioner near you visit Medical Acupuncture.

Ayurveda (or ayurvedic medicine), originated in India and is one of the world's oldest medical systems. Ayurveda incorporates specialized diets, herbs and massage to balance the mind, body and spirit. The term "Ayurveda" combines the Sanskrit words ayur (life) and veda (science or knowledge). Thus, Ayurveda means "the science of life." Ayurvedic medicine is based on 3 key concepts: universal interconnectedness, a body's constitution, and life forces.
